Victim of fatal accident identified

On Friday morning, the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office officially identified 25-year-old Nicholas “Cole” Rabbitt of St. Charles, Missouri, and formerly of Wellsburg, as the victim of a fatal one-vehicle accident on Highway 14 near the 175 intersection.
           
According to a police report, Rabbitt was traveling northbound on Highway 14 about eight miles southwest of Grundy Center in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 13, when he dropped off the east shoulder, struck the guardrail and cement culvert and flipped over. The vehicle landed on its wheels and started on fire.
           
Rabbitt grew up in Wellsburg and graduated from AGWSR High School in 2010. He went on to attend Iowa State University,  studying Computer Engineering. He was most recently employed at DirecTV in St. Charles.
           
A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Conrad United Methodist Church, and visitation was Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
           
The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office investigated the accident with assistance from Grundy Center Fire and Ambulance, the state DOT, the Grundy County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office.
