A Waterloo man has been charged with breaking in to a rural Reinbeck home and stealing jewelry from the laundry room.

Corbin Allen Bergman, age 41, was arrested on March 19 and charged with Second Degree Burglary, a Class C felony, for an incident that allegedly occurred at around 6:20 a.m. on March 15 at the home of Beth Thompson southwest of Reinbeck. According to the criminal complaint, Thompson was present during the break-in, heard a noise and found one of her windows shattered. Mr. Bergman later confessed to the offense, and the jewelry was recovered.

Bergman has since filed a request for a public defender and was released on a promise to appear. A trial date has not yet been set.
