Wellsburg Fire Dept. responds to grain bin blaze

STEAMBOAT ROCK – Early Friday morning, the Wellsburg Fire Department responded to the Roland Primus farm in Steamboat Rock after a grain drying unit caught fire.
The fire was reported around 6:30 a.m. on Friday, October 13 by Roland’s son Joe – who saw the glow of the flames while heading to work.
The Wellsburg Fire Dept. was dispatched to the property, and were on the scene for roughly five hours working to control the flames that engulfed the grain dryer, which held roughly 1500 bushels of corn.
The Steamboat Rock, Holland and Eldora Fire Departments were also called for assistance.
According to Wellsburg Fire Chief Greg Winger, the cause of the fire is still unknown at this time. The property owner estimated that the damage is in the six figures dollar amount.
