A Wellsburg man is facing felony charges of assaulting a police officer after allegedly attempting to head butt a sheriff’s deputy who responded to a noise complaint at a residence in town.

Grundy County Deputy Kirk Dolleslager received a domestic disturbance call at approximately 10:50 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, due to loud noises at a residence located at 403 Wilson Street. Dolleslager arrested Pabst for Disorderly Conduct, a simple misdemeanor. During this process, he allegedly became combative and attempted to head butt and spit on Dolleslager on his way to a police vehicle after being handcuffed, resulting in an additional charge of Assaults on Persons Engaged in Certain Occupations with Intent of Injury, a Class D felony.

The next day, Pabst posted a $25,000 bond and was released. He was not tested for drugs or alcohol at the scene of the alleged crime but is currently on probation for a public intoxication incident in Dike in 2015. According to Iowa Courts Online, he appeared in court on June 14 and waived his preliminary hearing. Public Defender Robert Bembridge will serve as Pabst’s legal counsel, and a trial date has not yet been set.
