Willis chooses Upper Iowa for volleyball

Following in her family's footsteps, Kylie Willis announced her commitment to Upper Iowa University's women's volleyball program earlier this year.

Willis also had Wartburg and Dordt on her college shortlist before going with the Peacocks, the school that her parents both attended. Lori, now the Grundy Center head volleyball coach, played volleyball at Upper Iowa as well, while Jesse Willis played football.

"I really felt at home at the campus, the coaches were really nice and I especially loved the small class sizes there," Kylie said.

The two-time NICL West volleyball player of the year for a Spartan team that has continued a lengthy 60-match conference winning streak initially wasn't as sure if she wanted to follow so closely to her family's collegiate history, Lori Willis said.

"We didn't care, we said go where you want to go," Lori said, "but she wanted to visit and she started building a relationship with the coach and one of her club teammates is going to go there as well, which helped out, too."

"It's nice that she'll be close and I think that weighed heavy on her decision. Not so much for us to see her play, that'll be difficult, but it's important for her to see her brother and sister play."
