Dike-New Hartford senior Morgan Weber was one of eight players across all five classes selected to the Iowa Girls Coaches Association's elite all-state volleyball team in teams released on Monday.

Weber was also named Class 3A's Player of the Year, earning a first-team spot on the Class 3A squad.

The Wichita State commit slammed a 3A-leading 5.49 kills per set with the Wolverines this fall, adding 57 aces on 92.8 percent serving efficiency, 5.01 digs per set and 54 total blocks in 106 sets played.

In Class 2A, Grundy Center earned three all-state spots: Seniors Emerson Kracht and Kyah Luhring on the second and third team and junior Abby Hamann as honorable mention.

Saari Kuehl of Gladbrook-Reinbeck was named to the second team in Class 1A. 

GRUNDY CENTER – On December 5, the Grundy Center Dance Team (GCDT) will be competing in the 2020 Iowa State Dance & Drill Team Association (ISDTA) Championships in Des Moines. They will be competing in Class V Pom at 8:33 am and Small School Hoopla 5:05 pm both in Wells Fargo Arena.

“We would love to see the community at state dance because as a team, we put in loads of hard work to prepare for this important performance. We have two minutes to give it our all, and that’s what we’re going to do this year down at Wells Fargo,” said Senior Anessa Smith.

DIKE- Linda McCann has become a household name in Iowa with her books chronicling the ghost towns in the state and other lesser known aspects of its history. Her latest, Prisoners of War in Iowa, tells the story of the mostly German men who spent time here during the Second World War and went to work in places like Eldora and Clarinda.

McCann spoke to a crowd of residents and high school students at the Dike Public Library on Monday afternoon to promote the book and answer questions from the audience.
