All-NICL West Boys Basketball Teams: G-R's Kiburis wins 2nd Outstanding Player award

Gladbrook-Reinbeck junior William Kiburis earned his second Outstanding Player award leading the 2021-22 All-NICL West boys basketball teams released last weekend.

Kiburis averaged 20.8 points, eight rebounds, 7.3 assists and 3.2 steals per game for the unbeaten NICL West champion Rebels. He also won the award as a sophomore.

Kiburis was one of three unanimous first-teamers, along with teammate Tristen Sanford-Anders and South Hardin's Mason Sheldahl.

Sanford-Anders averaged 12.9 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game in NICL West play.

Grundy Center senior Brayden Sawyer and G-R junior Luke Riffey were also first-team picks.

Sawyer averaged 10.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game; Riffey averaged 12.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.7 steals against West foes.

Area second teamers included Grundy Center's Dexter Whitehill and Jalen Kirkpatrick, AGWSR's Daniel Stahl and David Koop, and G-R's Caleb Egesdal.

Whitehill, a senior, averaged 10.4 points, 3.6 assists and 1.5 steals for the Spartans. Kirkpatrick, a freshman, put in 11.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.4 steals.

Stahl led the Cougars with 9.2 points and 8.3 points per game against West opponents, and added 2.7 assists per game. Koop averaged 6.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.0 steals per game.

Egesdal averaged 10.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists for the Rebels.

Area players receiving honorable mention included AGWSR senior Darren Veld, BCLUW sophomore Cael Keller, Grundy Center junior Patrick Brown III and Gladbrook-Reinbeck sophomore Isaac Clark.

G-R head coach Scott Kiburis was named Coach of the Year.
