All-NICL West Softball: Grundy Center's Emma Beck named MVP

Grundy Center senior Emma Beck was named the NICL West’s Most Valuable Player in All-NICL West softball teams released this week.

In the pitching circle, Beck had a West-leading 108 strikeouts in division play this summer, along with a 1.36 ERA with nine earned runs on 24 hits and 15 walks allowed in 46 and one-third innings.

She also averaged .425 in 40 at-bats with four doubles and eight runs batted in.

Beck was one of five unanimous first-team selections, along with fellow pitchers Morgan Neuroth of East Marshall and Hailey Rosonke of South Hardin and teammates Carlie Willis (first base) and Lucy Lebo (utility).

Willis was .395 in division play with four extra-base hits, 10 runs batted in and 11 stolen bases. Lebo led the Spartans with a .450 average, including six doubles, two home runs and 10 runs batted in. Lebo also threw 28 innings of NICL West play with a 2-2 record, 3.50 ERA and 21 strikeouts compared to 12 walks.

Other first teamers include the BCLUW trio of Callie Swanson (second base), Kaylee Grant (outfielder) and Cassie Nason (utility) and Grundy Center outfielder Taylor Stahl.

Swanson hit .441 in division play with four doubles and 11 runs batted in. She also threw out three batters attempting to steal from behind the plate.

Grant was BCLUW’s leading hitter against NICL West competition, with six runs batted in, 13 runs scored and 13 stolen bases.

Cassie Nason hit .400 for the Comets with three doubles and seven RBI.

Stahl tied for the NICL West lead with 13 stolen bases and added a .281 batting average in 10 division games. 

Second teamers included Grundy Center’s Allison Beenken (utility); AGWSR’s Avery Lafrenz (catcher), Tessa Sperfslage (first base) and Trevyn Smith (outfielder); BCLUW’s Katie Hill (pitcher, unanimous), Emma Hoover (outfielder), and Maliah Gunderson (utility).

Honorable mention went to AGWSR’s Quinn Holmgaard, BCLUW’s Cameron Bergman and Grundy Center’s Blessing Edittu.

East Marshall coach Jary Hoskey was named Coach of the Year.
