GRUNDY CENTER - Recently, the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center received a mental health advocate award for their work in helping reduce the stigma on mental health, and raise awareness of and support for mental health topics in the congregation and community.

The award is given each year during the Iowa Empowerment Conference to an organization that supports mental health. This year, the Lutheran Church was nominated for the award by Brian Heeren, an area local who is a former president of the Empowerment Conference, which is sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

In his letter of recommendation, Heeren writes how the church has always been supportive of mental health in the local community.
