Area girls on all-state basketball teams

The Iowa Print Sports Writers Association and Iowa Girls Coaches Association released their all-state girls basketball teams earlier this week.

Dike-New Hartford junior Sophia Hoffmann received first-team status from the IPSWA on their Class 2A team, and freshman teammate Payton Petersen was named to the second team. Grundy Center junior Lainy Thoren was a third-team all-state pick in 2A.

The IGCA recognized AGWSR's Alyssa Hames as a second-team all-state pick in 1A. In 2A, Petersen earned first-team honors, D-NH's Ellary Knock was a second-teamer and Hoffmann landed on the IGCA's third team. D-NH head coach Bruce Dall was tabbed as the 2A Coach of the Year for the undefeated state champion Wolverines.

Alyssa Hames averaged 18.8 points and 9.6 rebounds per game for the Cougars in her senior season, adding 2.6 steals per contest.

Sophia Hoffmann averaged 7.7 points, 6.8 assists and 4.6 steals per game for the Wolverines, tying for the state-lead in 2A in assists and ranking top ten in steals.

Payton Petersen averaged 14.0 points and 8.7 rebounds per game in her freshman season with D-NH, and was also named the Class 2A All-Tournament captain.

Ellary Knock, a sophomore, averaged 11.1 points and 6.0 rebounds per game for the Wolverines.

Lainy Thoren, a junior with the Spartans, averaged a double-double with 13.9 points and 10 rebounds per game, adding 2.8 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
