Arthur "Art" Bine
Arthur “Art” Bine, 91, of Beaman, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 3, 2023, at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad. He had Parkinson’s Disease.
Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Beaman United Methodist Church in Beaman. Interment will take place at a date to be determined at Oakland Cemetery in rural Beaman.
Art was born on July 30, 1932, to Wesley and Aura (Bute) Bine in Marshalltown. He was raised on the family farm established by his grandfather located north of Beaman. Art graduated from the Beaman School in 1950. He started at Iowa State College before serving in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. During his service he was stationed at Fort Riley, Kan., Indianapolis, Ind. and in Japan. After an honorable discharge, Art returned to Iowa State College and completed his degree in Farm Operations in 1956. Before graduating, he went on a date to a dance with Louise Barry, and found the love of his life. Art and Louise were married on June 28, 1958, in Cedar Rapids and set up a home on the family farm. They were blessed with three children. Art raised seed and commercial corn, seed and commercial soybeans and hogs.
Art was a member of Farm Bureau, the Soybean Association and the Pork Producers. Lions International awarded him the Secretary Award for excellent service to the Beaman Lions Club and the Warren Coleman Honorary Award for dedicated service in Lionism. From 1987 to 1999, Art was a director for the Mid-Iowa Cooperative in Beaman. Art and Louise’s farm received its Century Farm recognition in 2003 from the Iowa Department of Agriculture. He was a devoted lifelong member of the Beaman United Methodist Church, where he sang tenor in the choir and served on the pastor parish relations committee and the church board. In his free time, Art loved following Iowa State athletics, playing on the Beaman United Methodist softball team (the BUMs) and sailing. His great joys were in spending time with his immediate and extended family.
Art will be dearly missed by his three children: Kevin Bine, of Beaman; Jennifer Bine, of Indian Lake N.Y.; and Katharyn Bine, of Fairfax, Va.
He was preceded in death by Louise, his wife of 57 years, and by his three siblings: Laurence, Paul and Mary Bine.
