A 27-point second quarter from the visitors on the scoreboard decimated the Grundy Center boys and effectively ended any hopes for a comeback as East Marshall coasted to an 84-55 conference win on Friday night.

The first quarter was tight: after Chase Boren gave the Spartans (4-10) the early lead with a 3-pointer, the two teams played even ball throughout. Braidan Buhrow hit another trey, and senior Bryce Flater, who led Grundy Center with 16 points, established himself inside quickly. Boren hit another three to make the score 17-15 late in the quarter, but the Mustangs (9-3) tied the score on two Zaine Leedom free throws after a controversial foul call against Flater. At the first horn, it was knotted at 17.
