Board votes to repair Upper Elementary boiler
GRUNDY CENTER — Two years ago, the Grundy Center Community School District was told that it would be impractical to repair the boiler at its Upper Elementary building. A second opinion, however, has repairs on the fast track.
As the board discussed boiler options for the building’s upcoming heating season, including the possibility of purchasing a used boiler, Superintendent Jerry Schutz said Capitol City Boiler of Des Moines brought up the possibility of the repair for $25,000.
“They have looked at it and questioned why we were told it could not be repaired,” Director Ron Saak said.
The $25,000 cost of repairs is only $2,500 more than the District paid to rent a boiler from Capitol City last year. The repair comes with a one-year warrantee and is expected to last at least two or three years. A used boiler would cost $89,500 or more, according to bids the Board reviewed during the meeting.
