Carol Rae Witter

Carol Rae Witter, 73, of Reinbeck, passed away on Monday, June 7, 2021 at UnityPoint Allen Hospital in Waterloo. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, June 11 from 4 until 6 p.m. at the Abels Funeral and Cremation Service, French-Hand Chapel in Reinbeck. Memorials may be directed to the family. Carol was born on August 4, 1947 in Grundy Center to her parents Meinhardt and Bertha (Chew) Frieling. She graduated from Reinbeck High School in the class of 1965 and was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Witter on September 2, 1965. Together they welcomed their son Chris and their daughter Pamela into their family. Carol worked for Pioneer for many years and later Grundy County Memorial Hospital, from which she retired after approximately 25 years of service in the housekeeping department. 

Carol enjoyed camping, gardening, and crafts. She was known for her blankets and loved her birds and flowers. Carol also loved to bake, and especially to bake for others to enjoy. She was a very giving person and delighted in making others happy. Carol was a member of the Reinbeck Saddle Club and enjoyed her special road trip she and Bob would take, just the two of them. However, her true joy in life came from spending time with her family. She will be missed and long remembered by all who knew her.

Carol is survived by her husband Bob; her children Chris (Cindy) Witter and Pamela (Rob) Schafer; grandchildren Caroline (Nick) Wissinger, Cydnee Witter, Todd Schafer (Haley Thumann), Brittany (Josiah) Jansen and Austin Schafer; great-grandchildren Hoyt, Lane and Easton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Roger Frieling.
