City could have easier budget cycle

GRUNDY CENTER — A drop in insurance rates has the Grundy Center city budget for Fiscal 2016 looking up. That was the feeling Monday as city departments presented preliminary budget proposals during the regular city council meeting.
The city police, library, public works, ambulance and clerk spoke about their expected budget, with none expecting a major increase.
“Our budget will decrease,” Clerk Kristy Sawyer said.
Paramedic Ryan Sutcliffe presented a budget with $20,000 additional funding, though he said there is also additional income coming to the ambulance due to an increasing number of calls and a larger coverage area than in the past. He anticipated $40,000 in additional revenue during the upcoming year while noting that ambulance income is covering expenses.
