City council tables building ordinances after citizen concern voiced
GRUNDY CENTER – At Monday night’s regular Grundy Center City Council meeting, the discussion turned again to Ordinances 525 and 526, a set of ordinances which propose building fees and permits for re-roofing and fence-building projects.
During the public forum, Paul Sealman of Grundy Center addressed the council to voice his concerns on the ordinances.
“It’s my opinion that the people of Grundy Center do not need any new taxes,” Sealman said. “This is how many will perceive these two ordinances.”
Sealman said that he thinks a $40 permit to put up a fence is unnecessary because there is an existing ordinance that enforces a height restriction, without an extra fee to homeowners.
“As for a re-roofing ordinance, I can’t believe we are even voting for such a thing,” he said, adding that warranties and insurance take care of most issues of this kind, and if they don’t catch the issue for a prospective buyer, a home inspector would.
