Comet girls thump Waterloo Christian, fall to Spartans

CONRAD- The BCLUW girls’ basketball team got its first win of the season last Monday with a 56-17 drubbing of Waterloo Christian but fell to conference rival Grundy Center 69-50 on the next night in Conrad despite a pair of stellar performances from the top two Comet scorers.
Junior guard Samantha Ubben paced the Comets with 19 points, six steals, four assists and three rebounds against Waterloo Christian as BCLUW jumped ahead early and never surrendered its momentum. Senior Olivia Callaway added 14 points and nine rebounds, and junior Kate Goecke poured in nine points and grabbed five boards. Coach Dave Lee remarked that the Comets controlled the tempo and played stout defense, as evidenced by Waterloo Christian managing just 17 points in the contest.
