The city of Conrad will contribute $5,000 in Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) funds to the mural project on the former Friday’s Auto Service building at the intersection of Center and Main Street after the city council approved a request during its monthly meeting on Thursday.

Betty Haker of the mural committee came before the council to speak on why she and her husband first moved to Conrad as well as the strong sense of community pride.

“The mural would be one more expression of pride,” she said. “This is what makes us different (from other communities).”

The council reviewed some drawings and estimates for the project, which should cost just over $22,000 total. The committee has so far secured about $12,000 in donations and has backing from local businesses such as Green Products, Ryken Engineering, Casey’s and MidwestOne Bank to go with a recent grant from the Grundy County Community Foundation.
