Conrad council discusses potential new location for Darla Ubben memorial

Due to a change at the previously planned site of a memorial garden for late Conrad Chamber-Main Street Director Darla Ubben, one of the leaders of the campaign to honor her raised the possibility of moving the proposed fountain to city hall during last Thursday’s city council meeting.
           
The area in front of the old Friday’s Auto Service building, which had previously been floated as a potential spot for Ubben’s memorial, has now been named the Cliff Wilson Community Memorial Garden in honor of the longtime Ritchie Industries leader and well-known philanthropist, who passed away earlier this year.
           
Angie Martin spoke to the council about placing a fountain dedicated to Ubben in front of city hall, with the city covering the minimal electric costs and Ubben’s family and friends performing the upkeep. She added that the project has been tailored to stay within the budget of what has already been raised to avoid any further fundraising.
           
“Where can we do something for Darla that’s meaningful?” Martin asked.
