BCLUW head coach Anthony Jahr didn’t have to think long to diagnose why his team came up short against GMG in the non-district season opener on Friday night in Conrad.

“If I could sum up this interview for you in one word, and you could just print it, it would be turnovers,” he said after the game. “It’s turnovers.”

The Comets gave the ball away four times (including a fumble in the red zone) in a 12-6 loss to the Wolverines, who claimed victory over their rivals from just 17 miles away for the first time since 2010 in a cold, wet affair that saw three separate bouts of rainfall. A late touchdown pass was all BCLUW could muster offensively, and a pair of first half rushing touchdowns was enough to propel GMG to the win.

The Wolverines marched down the field on their opening drive, relying heavily on sophomore running back Brock Baldazo, who broke runs of 12 and eight yards before eventually scoring on a pitch play from six yards out to make the score 6-0 with 5:55 remaining in the first quarter.
