Cougars clinch playoff berth with district win over Belmond-Klemme

ACKLEY – AGWSR moved to 8-0 on the season and clinched their first playoff berth since 2005 with their 23-13 win over Belmond-Klemme Friday night. They currently sit atop the Class A District 2 standings at 5-0 in district play.
“The team played well,” AGWSR head coach Skip Eckhardt said. “Playing good defense was a key to the win. Staying healthy and eliminating mistakes will be important going into next week.”
Belmond Klemme took an early lead in the first quarter on a 90-yard touchdown run by track standout Korby Sander. AGWSR quarterback Brandon Johnson then found Austin Heitland for a 22-yard touchdown pass just before the end of the second quarter to even the score 7-7 at the half.
