Cougars crown five champions, take team title at Wags Invite

ACKLEY — Five AGWSR wrestlers took championships while two others reached the finals, lifting the Cougars to the team championship at their own Wags Invitational Saturday.
Miguel Reyes (132 pounds), Brandon Johnson (160), Cruz Vera (182), Caleb Meiners (195) and Clay Meinders (220) won their weight classes while Levi Stockdale (170) and Michael Young (285) placed second. In addition, Josh June was third at 152 pounds while Lucas Schumacher placed fourth at 138.
The Cougars won despite having three open weights. They finished with 197 ½ points to edge second-place Woodward-Granger by 12 ½ for the title. Belmond-Klemme (152 ½), Mason City Newman Catholic (136 ½) and Northwood-Kensett (128) rounded out the top five in the nine-team tourney.
