Council authorizes Main Street Iowa application

    GRUNDY CENTER — The Grundy Center City Council Monday approved a resolution to sign a Letter of Intent for Grundy Center to apply to the Main Street Iowa program this year.
    The resolution followed a presentation by Main Street Committee co-chair John Schuller, who briefed the council on progress toward the application. He said the application is due June 30 and that up to three of an expected 8 to 10 applications will be accepted. Once the current window has passed he said it will be between 18 and 24 months before another application window opens.
    Much of the discussion centered around funding for the project. Schuller said a minimum three-year commitment of $30,000 per year is required and that, because this is a competitive situation for Main Street designation, they should have more than that committed, suggesting that  up to $150,000 would be a good total to shoot for. He said the funding would come from a number of sources, though the city would be one of those.
