Crestwood hands D-NH girls first loss

DIKE — Crestwood matched a season high with seven 3-pointers, most coming at critical teams Saturday, on its way to handing the Dike-New Hartford girls their first loss of the 2013-14 season, 62-49, Saturday in Dike.
The Cadets (7-1, ranked No. 9 in Class 3A) never trailed after the first quarter while snapping the Wolverines’ seven game winning streak.
“It just seemed like we were a step slow,” Wolverine coach Bruce Dall said after the game.
Crestwood hit its 3-pointers at the most crucial points in the game, including the first bucket of each of the final three quarters. Senior Savannah Lentz, who had just 10 triples in Crestwood’s first seven games and was shooting less than 30 percent from behind the arc, hit five-of-seven attempts from distance to pace the charge.
“They didn’t shoot many threes coming into the game, they’re more of a go to the blocks type of team, and so I think we were too worried about the high-lows and protecting the blocks,” Dall said.
