D-NH baseball coach Leonard resigning after summer
Dike-New Hartford baseball head coach Sean Leonard announced on Twitter last week that he will resign his position at the end of the 2021 season.
“I am at peace with the decision and am certain this is what needs to happen,” Leonard said in his tweeted remarks. “I am choosing to get out in front of it in hopes that, once the season starts, it can be all about the players.”
Sean Leonard has spread his talents throughout the state in the last 15 years, and for most of the last 10 years, he's coached two different sports in addition to teaching physical education at North Fayette Valley, Janesville and, most recently, Hudson.
“I always knew there would come a time where I would need to teach and coach in one district,” Leonard wrote. “For a number of reasons, that time is now.”
Practice started today for all baseball and softball teams in Iowa. It will be Leonard’s 10th season of coaching the Wolverines and comes one year after D-NH’s first-ever state baseball appearance. The Wolverines have also won five NICL East titles in his tenure as coach.
“I am incredibly proud of what we have been able to accomplish during this time and I hope there is more to come this season,” Leonard said. “...I have loved being a Wolverine and I have loved working with our players.”
