D-NH's Foster commits to UW-Green Bay
For Ellie Foster, the first instinct was the best instinct.
The Dike-New Hartford girls basketball standout, now in her junior year with the Wolverines, chose the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay to continue her basketball playing career earlier this fall.
The decision was between the Phoenix, Illinois State and South Dakota State, but in the back of her mind Foster said she always felt that Green Bay, the first school she visited, was the right pick.
"My parents and I didn't want to rush into things too fast," Foster said. "After looking at all the factors and being able to visit some other great schools, I just knew in my heart that is really where I wanted to go."
The Phoenix are a standout school in the nation as they were recently recognized as having the highest team grade-point-average in the nation among women's basketball teams with a 3.753 GPA. Of the top 25 teams in this metric, Green Bay is one of six teams that was also selected to the 2018 NCAA Tournament – the Phoenix lost a first-round game against Minnesota last season, 89-77, finishing 29-4 overall.
