Darlene Mae Koobs

REINBECK - Darlene Mae (Kampman) Koobs, 87, of Reinbeck passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025, at the Valley View Village care facility in Des Moines.
A Celebration of Dar’s Life will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Town and Country Golf Clubhouse in Grundy Center on June 29. A private burial service will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center.
Darlene was born July 9th, 1937, on a small farm north of Kesley to Chris N. Kampman and Anna (Cordes) Kampman. She attended the Madison No. 6 country school as a child and graduated from Aplington High School, playing basketball and softball all four years. She later graduated from the Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo with an associate degree in medical clerical.
For over 30 years Darlene was employed as an office manager at three northeast Iowa automobile dealerships. Darlene was united in marriage to Gerald Alan Koobs on February 22, 1957. They made their home in Grundy Center. She was a long-time member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon. Along with being an avid book reader, her interests included painting, golfing, and bowling. She also enjoyed playing bridge and board games with family and friends. She sang in the Ostfriesen German chorus and sewed quilts for the Cedar Valley Hospice. She was a member of the Soroptimist club while living in Charles City and named their Woman of the Year in 1999.
She is survived by her two children, son Keith of Bluffton, South Carolina, daughter Karla (Steve) Hauser of Des Moines, three grandchildren, Sarah (Craig) Van Meeteren, Trent Hauser, and Chrisanne Hauser, two great-grandchildren, Harper and Logan Van Meeteren and her brother, Lester Kampman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Koobs, infant daughter Penny Koobs, both parents and her sister, Donna Janssen.
