Dennis Brubaker

GRUNDY CENTER – Dennis Brubaker, of Grundy Center passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at the age of 84.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, at the Alice Church of God, 17160 270th Street, Conrad, with a luncheon to follow at the American Legion in Conrad. Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at the Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Interment will be held following the luncheon at the Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City, with full Military Honors.

Dennis was born Dec. 17, 1939, to Price and Berniece Brubaker. He graduated from Prairie City High School in 1958 and attended McPherson College in Kansas, followed by dental school at the University of Iowa. Dennis was united in marriage to Maxine (Williams) in August 1960. Following dental school, the couple and family moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where Dennis served for two years as a dentist in the US Air Force. In 1967, the family moved to Grundy Center where Dennis established his dental practice.

After the death of his wife, Maxine, Dennis was united in marriage to Sue (Bockes) in May 2001. After retiring from his dental practice, he continued to enjoy woodworking, furniture building and gardening. He was an active member at the Alice Church of God, along with his wife, Sue. Family and friends will also remember Dennis for his love of cards, as a ruthless cribbage player, and for the donut holes and brownies he provided for visitors.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Sue; sister Colleen (Max) VandeLune; daughter Diane (Jeff) Bakk, Anna (Ben) Andrews & Klara, Ben Bakk (Mel Krug), Peter (Katie) Bakk, Heidi Bakk; son Brad (Teresa) Brubaker, Nathan (Abby) Brubaker, Lydia Brubaker, Becca Brubaker; daughter Kristin (Brent) Kivell, Emma Kivell, Andrew Kivell (Abby Miller, fiancé), and Cecelia Kivell; Sue’s daughters, Kristine (Steve) Moser, Lisa (Stephen) Boyd & Evie and Lucy, Mitchell (Savannah) Moser & Callen, Spencer (Hannah) Moser & Saylor and Linden, Drake (Megan) Moser; Kelley Smith, Jacob (Sarah) Smith & Landon, Tyler (Kayla) Smith & Laramie, as well as other extended family and many friends throughout the community.

Memorials may be directed to the family for Samaritan’s Purse and the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown.

Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center has been entrusted with the care of Dennis and his family.
