Diderik “D” Peterson

GRUNDY CENTER - Diderik Wayne “D” Peterson, 8 years old, was called into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the University of Iowa, Stead Family Children’s Hospital, in Iowa City, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024, at Orchard Hill Church in Grundy Center, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Orchard Hill Church in Grundy Center, with burial following at Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Diderik was born at Mercy One (Covenant Hospital) in Waterloo, Iowa, on March 3, 2015, to his adoring parents Tarrence and Nicole (Anderson) Peterson. He was raised in Traer, Iowa until he was 4 ½ and moved to Grundy Center with his parents and new brother, Dane in 2019. He tolerated school, but loved recess, his friends, gym class, and all things sports. He recently began to enjoy going to school and loved to see his friends every day. His classmates loved him too, as he was known to be the class clown, making everyone laugh. He was silly, kind, helpful, caring, a great friend, and this past year developed a dry sense of humor he inherited from his Papa Jeff.

Diderik loved monster trucks, hot wheels cars, and the ‘Ninja Turtles. He played basketball, football, soccer, loved to ride his bike, and all things outdoors. Whether he was begging his parents to take him to the golf course to hit some balls or to the park, he could always be counted on to ask them to “just stay a little bit longer.” He loved to go to the timber with his dad and explore. Since the age of 5, Diderik has been Tarrence’s ice fishing buddy and he loved spending time with his dad in the garage building stuff, watching football, and hanging out. Diderik enjoyed going to Papa’s house and riding his dirt bike, golf cart, and 4-wheeler all around the yard. At Nana’s farm he enjoyed feeding and caring for the animals. Diderik was a caretaker. Whether it was his friends, parents, brother, or sister, he was always there to care for the people he loved. His proudest moments in his short life were becoming a big brother to Dane and Demi. Diderik will be missed but live on in the hearts and memories of his friends and family.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents Tarrence and Nicole; grandparents Jeff and Chris Anderson, Steve Peterson, Bobbi (Marty) Pettengill; great-grandpa Ken McMillan; great-grandma Carol Eich; uncles Blake (Megan) Anderson, their children Harper, Nash, and Creed, and Jesse (Mikaela) Anderson, their children Ava and Henry; aunt Shalane (Cody) Wical, their daughter Louise Wical; and many beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents Cliff Anderson, Robert “Buck” and Gloria Rickert, Wayne and Mary Lou Peterson and Leiloni McMillian.
