Dulcie Phyllis Modlin

GRUNDY CENTER -- Dulcie Phyllis Modlin, 97, of Grundy Center, died Friday, Jan, 3, 2025, at her home in Grundy Center, of natural causes.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 11 at Cornerstone Methodist Church, with burial at the Rose Hill Cemetery, both in Grundy Center. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church.

Modlin was born the daughter of Lawrence W. and Irene (Craig) Huber on July 18, 1927, in Marshalltown.  She graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1945. 

Phyllis met Harold Modlin at Manly Drug in Grundy Center in 1946.  The couple was united in marriage on July 3, 1947, in Missouri.  After their marriage, Phyllis and Harold lived in Grundy Center.  They moved to the country from 1961 until 1971, then they moved back into town. Phyllis was a school bus driver in Grundy Center for 52 years and retired in 2010.  Through the years, she also worked at the Spokesman Press, Manly Drug, Town & Country Golf Club and Skyway.

Phyllis was a member of First United Methodist Church, now called Cornerstone Methodist Church in Grundy Center.  At her church, she was a member of the Women’s Club.  Phyllis was also a member of Business of Professional Women (BPW), and Rebeccas.  She volunteered at Grundy Memorial Hospital, the elementary school and Grundy Center library, where she read to children.  Phyllis and Harold enjoyed taking fishing trips.  Phyllis also enjoyed traveling with Grundy National Bank tours to Greece, Italy, Croatia, Hawaii and Alaska. Phyllis was a faithful fan and attended the Grundy Center School sporting and band events.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, LuAnn Modlin of Grundy Center; one grandson, Chad (Melissa) Modlin of New Hartford, Iowa; one great-grandson, Mitchell Modlin; one brother, Larry (LaVerda) Huber of Lakeside, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. 

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Harold; a son, Curtis Modlin; her parents, Lawrence and Irene Huber; a sister, Yvonne Huber and three infant sisters, Charlotte, Darlene and Avis.
