Edward G. Schoolman

Edward G. Schoolman 97, of Holland, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Creekside Living in Grundy Center, Iowa. A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church, 617 E. 4th Street, Wellsburg, IA, with honors conducted by the Grundy County Fire Honor Guard. Inurnment will take place at the Holland Cemetery at 1:15 p.m. with military honors conducted by the Grundy Center American Legion Post #349 and AMVETS 17. Memorials may be directed to the family. Ed was born on September 23, 1926, in Holland, Iowa. He was the son of Ehne and Clara (Ohling) Schoolman. Ed was united in marriage to Ethel Getting on August 4, 1947, at the Christian Reformed Church in Holland, IA. To this union was born their son Jerry. Ed served in the United States Marines during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Iowa and began his career in trucking. After retirement from the Farmer’s Co-Op, he drove charter bus for a number of years. Ed served the City of Holland as Fire Chief and Mayor. Ed was also a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg, Iowa. Ed is survived by his son Jerry (Lori) of Holland, Iowa; grandson Todd (Allison) Schoolman of Wellsburg, Iowa and granddaughter Keri Schoolman of Holland, Iowa; three great-grandchildren Dawson, Quinn, and Lennox Schoolman of Wellsburg, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. He joins his heavenly family which includes his parents; wife Ethel; sister Anna Mae (Jim) Bienfang; and many longtime friends.
