A van rollover on Highway 20 on Friday morning resulted in four deaths near the 189-mile marker north of Wellsburg.

The Iowa State Patrol, assisted by numerous agencies, responded to the accident at approximately 6:35 a.m. on Friday, where a 2002 Chevrolet Express transporting 13 people lost control on the completely snow/ice covered road, entered the median and rolled several times, ejecting four occupants before coming to a rest in the eastbound lane.

Ervin J. Borntreger, 22; Marlin Borntreger, 1; Rebecca Borntreger, 2; and Emma Borntreger, 4 were all killed in the accident and the other nine occupants were injured and transported to several medical centers, including Grundy County Memorial Hospital, MercyOne Waterloo and University of Iowa Hospital.

The Iowa State Patrol reported that none of the occupants were wearing seatbelts or child restraint devices. The passengers were all from Delhi, save for one from Hopkinton, the same residence as the driver of the vehicle.

Grundy County Sheriff Kirk Dolleslager estimated in an interview with Local 5 News out of Des Moines that around 50 members of EMS, firemen and law enforcement agencies were on hand to help with the crash.

According to reports from KCRG, the passengers were an Amish family on their way to Missouri to visit family. The Delhi United Methodist Church has opened a GoFundMe to support the crash survivors and their families at https://gofund.me/508e9175.
