G-R girls fall in regional opener

TRAER — An old bugaboo reared its ugly head one final time for the Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls’ basketball team Saturday, as the Rebels saw their season end with a 63-46 loss to North Tama in a Class 2A regional opener.
The Rebels (8-13), who went 2-7 on the road in the regular season, could not break the curse in their second game in Traer in two weeks.
The Rebels led 16-13 after a quarter only to see the Red Hawks outscore them 23-14 in the second stanza to take a six-point halftime lead. The six-point advantage still stood after three quarters before North Tama pulled away in the final eight minutes.
Amber Berendes led the Rebels with 16 points while Ellie Stoakes scored 11 and Hanna Christopher nine.
