G-R superintendent ends sharing agreement
GLADBROOK/REINBECK – The superintendent sharing agreement that the Gladbrook-Reinbeck and South Hardin school districts entered into a year ago will now come to an end with the close of the school year.
Under the agreement, South Hardin’s superintendent Jay Mathis would split his time between the two schools, spending about 60 percent of his time at South Hardin and the remaining 40 percent of his time at G-R.
The agreement, which was entered into with hopes of saving both districts money on a superintendent’s salary, turned out to be too much for Mathis, who found that his time was being stretched too thin between the two schools.
Though Mathis said nothing of the situation, he clearly came on board for Gladbrook-Reinbeck at a time when demands there would escalate dramatically, with the patrons at G-R contemplating a dissolution of the district.
