GC Robotics preps for postseason
GRUNDY CENTER – The Grundy Center Robotics group is sending three teams to a FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Super Qualifier on Feb. 11 in Norwalk.
Lactose Intolerance, We Over Slept and Secret Servos will compete for one of the 16 spots available at March’s state meet in Coralville on March 2-3.
“It’s exciting to see the continued growth of our FTC robotics program,” said Rob Gingery, Grundy FTC coach. “Having three teams advance to the Super Qualifier is a huge accomplishment.”
Lactose Intolerance earned the overall league championship and also won the Motivate Award for their outreach project where the team has raised money for additional STEM education at the elementary school and presenting their robots to the fourth grade classes to help promote and support computer science.
Secret Servos earned the Think Award for their robot’s articulated arm that allowed them to quickly pick up the cone game pieces.
The teams compete in POWERPLAY, where an alliance of two robots competes against another two-robot team to score points on various “junctions” that reward various points based on the height of the junction and offer further chances to score based on ownership of the junctions. A full description of POWERPLAY is available at firstinspires.org/robotics/ftc.
