GC/DNH Academic Decathlon sets records at State

MOUNT VERNON — In almost every way, the 2015 state Academic Decathlon competition looked to be business as usual for Grundy Center/Dike-New Hartford.
    Well prepared … check.
    Ready for a top-three finish … check.
    Expect competition for those three spots to be a dogfight among at least five well-prepared teams … check.
    The difference? This was going to be coach Don Osterhaus’ last campaign. After 26 academic decathlons, number 27 was going to be the end of the line. If Osterhaus hoped for something extraordinary in his last go around, he wasn’t disappointed.
    The GC-DNH team notched a second consecutive third-place finish en route to scoring a school record 33,933 points. While piling up those totals, they also rewrote several long-standing records.
