Girls basketball roundup: Dike-New Hartford wins battle of ranked teams

DIKE – Dike-New Hartford girls basketball extended its winning streak to 11 games with a trouncing of 13th-ranked (2A) Hudson in Dike on Friday.

The Wolverines are the top ranked team in Class 3A as ranked by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. D-NH improved to 12-0 in the NICL East and 13-1 overall.

Four D-NH players scored in double digits: Ellie Foster led the way with 16 points, followed by Morgan Weber with 15 points, Katie Knock with 12 and Sophia Hoffmann with 10 points. Weber added a team-leading nine rebounds and Hoffmann distributed five assists.

D-NH shot 28-of-53 (52.8 percent) from the floor, including 11-of-22 from 3-point range. The Wolverines led 22-5 after the first quarter, which was enough to sustain a sizable lead for the remainder of the game.

 

GRUNDY CENTER 46, BCLUW 32: Bailey Reding led a trio of Spartans in double figures in Friday's win over the Comets.

Lainy Thoren scored 12 points with 11 rebounds and Leslie Homeister added 10 points and eight rebounds. The Spartans are 8-1 in the NICL West, keeping pace with one-loss West Marshall at the top of the standings.

BCLUW led 11-10 after the first quarter but the Comets were held under 10 points in each of the next three quarters. Grundy Center held a 38-31 rebounding advantage and assisted on 17 of the Spartans' 18 field goals, including seven assists for Paiton Wallis.

Allison Engle scored nine points to lead the Comets, contributing six rebounds. Chloe Walters scored eight points with four rebounds and Betula Messerly had six rebounds and four steals.

 

WEST MARSHALL 55, AGWSR 44: The Cougars fell behind in the home stretch of this loss in Ackley.

Alyssa Hames and MaKenna Kuper scored 12 points each and Rachel Sicard added 10 points with eight rebounds.

The Cougars were only down 23-22 at halftime but West Marshall outscored AGWSR 23-9 in the final quarter to close out the win. The Trojans made 13-of-18 free throws and went 20-for-38 (52.6 percent) from the field.

Avril Sinning led the Trojans with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting, Teresa Disney added 10 rebounds.

 

GLADBROOK-REINBECK 52, EAST MARSHALL 40: The Rebels posted their best offensive total of the season in the win at Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School on Friday.

Emma McClintock scored 17 points to lead the Rebels, Saari Kuehl added a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds and Brianna Strohbehn chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds.

The win puts G-R into fifth place in the NICL West at 3-6 in division play and 4-12 overall.

East Marshall led 12-8 after a quarter but G-R rallied to a 20-19 advantage at halftime. The Rebels overcame 17 turnovers by outrebounding East Marshall 40-7 and converting 20 of 24 free-throw attempts.
