Girls tennis roundup: D-NH girls bounce back from opening loss

After falling to Aplington-Parkersburg in the season opener, Dike-New Hartford girls tennis has won two meets in a row with victories over Grinnell and South Hardin last Friday, April 15 and Monday, April 18, respectively.

D-NH defeated the Tigers in Eldora 8-1, with South Hardin’s only victory coming at No. 1 singles - Jaidyn Teske held off Madelyn Norton, 8-3. Norton and Misty Harreld won at No. 1 doubles over Jaidyn and Abby Teske, 8-0.

In the 6-3 win over Grinnell, Misty Harreld won 8-1 at No. 1 singles over Anna Key; Harreld and Anna Frahm teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles.

In the 7-2 loss to A-P, Kaitlin Cuvelier defeated Madelyn Norton 9-7 at No. 1 singles. Cuvelier and Lily Hovenga defeated Norton and Harreld, 8-5. Ellie Knock and the doubles team of Sophia Folkerts and MaryClaire McCarter had the only wins for the Wolverines.

Spartans split first two tennis tilts

Grundy Center/Gladbrook-Reinbeck won their season opener on the road last Tuesday at Nevada, 8-1, but was edged out by Iowa Falls-Alden on Monday, 5-4.

In the season opener at Nevada’s SCORE Complex, Sarah Schildroth won 8-5 at No. 1 singles. Schildroth and Maria Bollo teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.

Monday’s matchup with the Cadets came down to the final match on the court, with IF-A’s No. 3 doubles team winning 8-2.

The teams split the singles matches, with Sarah Schildroth, Shaelyn Boudreau and Allison Beenken winning their respective singles matches. Autum Clark and Boudreau also won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles to set up the tiebreaking match.
