Grassley kicks off 99-counties tour in Grundy Center

GRUNDY CENTER – Late last week, Senator Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) kicked off his annual 99-counties tour with a visit to Grundy Center, where he toured the Environmental Lubricants Manufacturing plant and held a public forum with community members.
Among the many topics Grassley addressed was domestic manufacturing; specifically what opportunities may be on the horizon for Midwest ag and manufacturing companies such as ELM.
“I think we need to get back to what we can do to export more,” Grassley said.
In Grundy Center, ELM exports their soybean oil-based industrial lubricants to various different countries, such as Mexico, Australia and locations throughout Europe. Though after President Trump formally abandoned the Trans-Pacific Partnership on his first day in office, it remains unclear what changes businesses might now see in the workings of global commerce.
“I don’t necessarily approve of [President Trump] pulling out [of the TPP], but I think we can all applaud a president who thinks he can negotiate something better for us,” Grassley said.
