Grundy Center City Council approves Fiscal 2015 budget

    GRUNDY CENTER – The Grundy Center City Council approved its Fiscal 2015 budget during Monday’s regular meeting, setting the wheels in motion for the upcoming fiscal year.
    City Clerk Kristy Sawyer said the budget approved was identical to that published in The Grundy Register two weeks ago with an identical 15.60209 levy rate per $1,000 taxable valuation to what the city had last year. Residential property owners will see increased taxes despite the tax rate remaining steady because of the residential property rollback, which increased from 52.82 a year ago to 54.40 this year.
    No individuals were present to speak for or against the budget, though Sawyer said she received one phone call from an out-of-town individual who owns property in the city calling for each department to  cut expenses by 10 percent. Sawyer said she invited the individual, who was not identified, to speak at this week’s council meeting though the individual declined to do so.
