GRUNDY CENTER – Despite a light, steady rain throughout most of the night at the Class 1A District meet Thursday, the Grundy Center girls’ team put together a number of top performances, many of them in their final performance of the season, while six Lady Spartans earned the right to compete at the 2015 state track and field meet this week.
“I was extremely pleased with the way we performed on a rainy, dreary night,” Grundy Center head coach Todd Rohler said. “We had seven events that set their personal records for the season, and we qualified four events for the state meet. I think it speaks very highly of our girls that they compete their best in the biggest meets. We are looking forward to good things this Thursday through Saturday at the state meet.”
The Spartan distance medley team of Kayla Mathews, Katie Lindeman, Landry Luhring, and Piper Johanns clocked their season best time of 4:32.97 to earn a district championship and secure an outright spot at the state meet. The three junior members of the team - Mathews, Lindeman, and Johanns - are all making their third straight trip to the state meet, while freshman Luhring will run for the first time on the blue oval.
