Grundy Center Sports Hall of Fame 2021 Ceremony

Although none of the coaches or members of the 1935 Grundy Center girls basketball team are alive, they were represented by relatives. Chuck Goodman, Greg Goodman and Paul Harberts represented their mothers at the ceremony. The 1935 Spartan girls finished third in the state.

The 1952 team went undefeated and the regular season and qualified for the state tournament. Representing the team was Bud Bergman, Glen Van Fossen, John Doak, Jim Bergman (behind and representing his father Jake Bergman), Don Niehaus and Steve Bergman (also representing his father Jake Bergman.

The 1971 Grundy Center boys basketball team, coached by Harry Dole, finished the regular season undefeated and qualified for the state basketball tournament.

The 2005 Lady Spartans basketball team, coached by Al Jones, won the state basketball tournament, the first for any Grundy Center basketball team.

Jason Kirkpatrick was inducted into the Hall of Fame in honor of his accomplishments in basketball and golf.

Tim Stanley was honored for his achievement in wrestling with Grundy Center. Doug Van Gelder accepted the award in Stanley’s honor.

Katie Schuller was inducted into the 2020 Hall of Fame class for her accomplishments in basketball and golf.

The Grundy Center Sports Hall of Fame inducted several teams and individuals as part of a ceremony on Saturday, July 10 during the 2021 Felix Grundy Festival last weekend. The ceremony combined team and individual inductees from last year that weren’t able to be recognized due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and two legacy boys basketball teams as part of the 2021 class.
