Grundy Council acts on several BIG requests

    GRUNDY CENTER — The Grundy Center City Council approved a series of Business Innovation Grants and denied one during its regular meeting Monday at City Hall.
    The Council approved grants of $6.345 for Dave Loftus to do tuck pointing, brick replacement and roof repairs at the Grundy Center Laundry Mat and $1,620 for Loftus to do roof repairs at Video Place but denied Loftus’ request for the forgivable matching loan funds of $1,138 for work at 604 8th Street.
    Councilman Dave Stefl asked if that property still had zoning issues, and Mayor Brian Buhrow said Loftus was aware of the issue before applying for the grant. Following a brief discussion, Council voted 3-1 to deny the request.
    Council also approved BIG Grants of $13,454 to Connie Stickley, owner of Crazy Daisies, to do electrical updates and install new meters at her business, and of $389 to Steph Larson to move and update the sign at Stylish Living.
    The Council approved refinancing $1,555,000 in General Obligation Bonds at GNB Bank. The refinancing, which has been discussed for more than a month, will save the city $52,501 over the 12 remaining years until the bonds mature.

    IN OTHER BUSINESS, THE COUNCIL
    • Approved a variance request from GNB Bank and recommended by the Board of Adjustments for a new sign;
    • Approved the third reading of an ordinance adopting the City’s Code of Ordinances and then adopted the ordinance.
