Grundy Council to host public hearing about bonds for lighting project
GRUNDY CENTER — The Grundy Center City Council will hold a public hearing at its Oct. 21 meeting regarding issuance of a GEO Bond that will pay for an upcoming street light replacement project.
The project would replace lights along G Avenue as well as traffic control lights at the intersections of G and Sixth Street and G and Seventh Street.
Council member Janetta Miller asked if there is any way the city can pay for the project as it goes rather than purchase the bonds.
“Give me some history. Why are we bonding this?” she asked.
Mayor Rex Van Wert said the city could probably pay for the project with money on hand, though that money has already been allocated to other projects.
“Bonds are actually a good thing because those who are using and getting the benefit are paying for it,” he said. “The people who are using it today are paying for it and the people who are using it 10 years from now are paying for it.”
