Grundy, Iowa Falls law firms announce expansion

GRUNDY CENTER – Last week, the Heronimus, Schmidt, Allen, Schroeder & Geer law firm announced that an Iowa Falls-based practice – Barker, McNeal, Wiese & Holt – will be joining their firm.
Todd Geer, a partner with Heronimus et al., said their firm was contacted about the possibility last year by Michael Holt, who is a partner with Barker et al.
“About a year ago, Lynn Wiese, one of the partners at [Barker, McNeal, Wiese & Holt] tragically passed, and within a few months, Mike Holt contacted us and inquired if we might have interest in the firms joining,” Geer said.
Geer said the two firms are quite similar, and have a similar clientele, so the decision to join together was not overly difficult.
“Our two firms have always had a really good relationship, so we felt like this would be a mutually beneficial decision to join firms,” Geer said.
Though there are many details that still need to be finalized, the merger will go into effect at the beginning of the year.
“We’ll staff that firm similarly to our other offices we have in Conrad, Wellsburg and Ackley. This will be another office for us, and we’re viewing it more as an opportunity to service our clients who are from that area,” Geer said. “We have a number of clients in that area already, so we’ll let them decide if it’s more convenient to meet with us there, or here [in Grundy Center], but they at least have that option.”
Geer said there are currently two lawyers at the Iowa Falls firm: Mike Holt and Taylor Nederhoff.
“They’re both really good lawyers, really good to work with,” he said. “We have a great relationship with both of them, and we just felt it would be a nice fit for our two firms to join.”
