Hands-on ... Students get up close medical experience
GRUNDY CENTER — What does a brain feel like? What are the roles of paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians? How do you read an electrocardiogram?
Those questions and many others were answered for local students Tuesday who attended the Experience Medicine event at Grundy Center High School.
The event for students from Grundy Center, Dike-New Hartford, Gladbrook-Reinbeck and Aplington-Parkersburg exposed upper level science and math students and those interested in medical careers to both emergency medical practices as well as those performed in a hospital setting. Paramedics and EMTs from Grundy Center and Parkersburg showed students basic lifesaving techniques as well as some of the equipment they use while faculty and medical students from Des Moines University brought exhibits and demonstrations for the students to see and work hands-on with.
