Houts finishes 1st-team All-NICL cross country
LA PORTE CITY – Dike-New Hartford’s Izzy Houts earned first-team All-NICL honors with a ninth-place individual finish at the North Iowa Cedar League meet at a windy, chilly La Porte City Golf Course last Thursday, Oct. 13.
Houts completed the course in 20:22, leading the Wolverines to an eighth-place finish in the team standings.
“It was tough with the wind, but I felt good today,” Houts said. “I think we’ve all progressed really great this season and I think if we work together and have fun, we’ll do great this postseason.”
Elyse Folkerts just missed on All-NICL recognition, placing 31st overall in 22:04; six seconds behind the cutoff for overall top-30.
GC/G-R’s Grace Storjohann was 12th in 20:42 to take a second-team All-NICL spot and Laney Dole earned honorable mention, finishing 23rd in 21:16. The GC/G-R girls finished seventh as a team with 153 points.
Of note in lower level races, D-NH’s Payton Foster won the girls junior high race in 13:14.
