Hughes embracing new role at A-P and Grundy Center

In the month and a half that Rob Hughes has served as the shared superintendent for Aplington-Parkersburg and Grundy Center thus far, he’s learned something new every day.
           
“People have been extremely welcoming. It’s great to get to know people, and I’ve been having a lot of conversations, especially with the administrative team and the boards of directors,” he said. “We look forward to continuing collaboration.”
           
In the next few weeks, as staff members file in and students are welcomed back to campus, he’ll have a chance to meet most if not all of them and establish relationships within the business and professional communities in both districts.
 
Prior to accepting the newly created position here, Hughes served as assistant superintendent at Fort Dodge, a larger 4A school, and he’s anxious to tackle the challenges awaiting him at A-P and Grundy Center. Some issues are universal, but he does hope to tailor his initiatives to the specific needs of each district. At A-P, that will include social emotional learning, trauma-informed care and embracing the “We are A-P” motto, and at Grundy Center, the elementary school will be incorporating the popular “Leader in Me” program to instill positive values in youngsters.
