The Iowa High School Athletic Association delayed a decision on release of football classifications, districts and schedules until the first week of February.

The IHSAA Board of Control discussed the recommendations from the Iowa Football Coaches Association's advisory committee regarding the number of regular season games and playoff qualifiers. No vote was made on the recommendation to shorten the regular season to eight weeks and expand the playoffs back to 32 teams. A Feb. 5 deadline has been set by the Board of Control to make a decision on the football districts.

The motion was initially tabled to allow for time to discuss the change with the IHSAA's Classification Committee and Class 4A athletic directors, which included topics of addressing competitive equity concerns.
