She lived in Baxter until the age of fourteen then moved to Jack and Etta Conner’s funeral home to be a nanny for their son, Van. She later moved north of Conrad to be a nanny for Art and Alma Traubaugh.
On January 23, 1944, she was united in marriage to Donald Slinker. Inez loved and raised her family and cared about everyone else as well. As a person who has a loving and giving personality, she had been a Girl Scout Leader and a Cub Scout Den Mother She had worked in the food service department at the Conrad school and was a nurses’ aide at the Oakview Nursing Home.
She was later employed in the dietician department at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital. Inez had a strong faith and she was proud to be the oldest living member of the Conrad United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Entre Nous Club, the Mid Circle Club, the Royal Neighbors Club and the Conrad American Legion Auxiliary. Inez was an avid historian. She once traveled to England and upon return she spoke to several groups in Conrad to talk about her sights and experiences there as well as many historical facts. Numerous families in Conrad will remember all the sewing, alterations and embroidery that Inez loved doing for them.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Daryl (Georgia) Slinker, Beverly (Larry) Markwitz and Nancy (Don) Mueller; twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
